Motutara Farm Location
If you are traveling from Auckland
the drive to Motutara Farm will be approximately 3 hours
(not allowing for stoppages). The driving time from Whangarei
is approximately 45 minutes.
Leaving Whangarei drive north on
SH1. After by-passing the small township of Hikurangi the
next sign posted turn to the right is to Whananaki North.
The first 14 kms of the Whananaki road takes you through
dairy farming countryside of Otonga and Opuawhanga, you
then descend through a windy stretch we know as the "Cutting"
and a good example of our native bush and regenerating Kauri
forest on your left side. On reaching the Whananaki Store
continue about 2kms driving alongside the Whananaki Estuary,
as you leave the estuary driving up the first hill look
for our sign on the right.
Motutara (More-too-tara) is the
traditional Maori name for the peninsular. "Motu"
is island and "tara" is gull.
